Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to virtually any type of metal that can be used both by industry and consumers. It has been around since the 1960s and is used on a wide variety of products. Today powder coating represents about 16% of the total industrial finishing market. You may be wondering what powder coating all about and why you need to be using it to protect your metal. Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to virtually any type of metal that can be used both by industry and consumers. It has been around since the 1960s and is used on a wide variety of products. Today powder coating represents about 16% of the total industrial finishing market. It is quickly becoming the preferred method for consumers to not only protect their metal items, but to add a decorative touch as well. Powder coating provides a uniform, durable, high quality and attractive finish.

Midstate Burglar Bars & Ironworks introduced our new Powder Coating services earlier this year. All of the burglar bars, security doors, air conditioner cages, entry gates, railings, fences and decorative column products that we manufacture in our Montgomery Alabama facilities are now powder coated. This results in all of our products having a more durable protected finish and allows your security products to hold up longer in the elements.

           How Powder Coating Works

As stated above, Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to virtually any type of metal that can be used both by industry and consumers. The powder used in the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which electrostatically sprayed onto the surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electronically grounded surfaces until the powder is heated and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven.

           Benefits of Powder Coating

          Cost Effective—

The greatest benefit of powder coating has to do with efficiency and overspray. The average transfer efficiency of powder coating is 60-70%. You may think this is not the best, but any over spray is collected and reused, meaning there is little to no waste. When compared to other coating methods such as conventional paint, the transfer efficiency is only 30-35%. Also, about 50% of paint evaporates without any means of reusing the over spray. The base product for powder coating is also cheaper than conventional paint.

          Environmentally Friendly—

There are many environmental advantages to powder coating as well. Since there are no solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), there is no damage done to the environment when the powder coating is applied. Conventional paint contains chemicals that are harmful to the environment including ozone depletion and producing hazardous waste.

          Durability—

Powder coating provides a protective finish that is much more durable than conventional paint. As stated above, because of the high cross-link density created by powder coating, the molecular chains are harder to breakdown, making the finish harder and more durable. Powder coating protects some of the biggest industrial machinery as well as household items that you used on a daily basis.

Are you tired of painting? Do you have an item that you would like to have powered coated? We can refurbish your old rusty dull metal item into a durable well protected metal item with an attractive colorful finish. The new year is a great time to update or add new security measures to your home. Last time we listed some areas to update like security doors and fencing. Let's move on to some more areas that thieves might focus on when trying to break into your home.

           Exterior Burglar Bars

Doors and windows are the two main entry points for burglars. In the last blog, we gave some ways to protect your doors. Exterior burglar bars are a great way to protect your windows. Our exterior burglar bars are made using heavy gage steel. They are adjustable, so they are easily installed in any house. For bars that attach to wood, there are pre-drilled holes in the bars. For bars that attach to brick, we build the bars to adjust out in width. Our exterior burglar bars have different patterns to choose from or you can get plain bars. Thieves will stop in their tracks when thinking about breaking into your house when they see your exterior burglar bars.

           Interior Burglar Bars

Midstate also offers interior burglar bars. Interior bars offer the exact same protection as exterior ones, but they look like regular windowpanes. We offer three different types of interior burglar bars: windowpane style that fits snug to your window casing and line up with the grids, vertical bar style that fits snug to your window casing and vertical bar style that is adjustable in width. All three styles have the option of adding a fire escape for bars installed in bedrooms. Protect your family and property by installing burglar bars on all your windows today. Yes, all your windows. Even the upstairs windows. You never know what lengths a burglar will go to in order to break into your house.

           AC Cages

Did you know that thieves will destroy your AC unit just to get the copper wiring out of it to sell to a scrapping company? It's true. The only way to truly protect your unit is with an AC cage from Midstate. Our cages are extremely strong and adjust to fit most AC units. They are service tech friendly, easy to install and come in a variety of colors to match your unit. Don't be a victim of copper thieves by protecting your AC unit with the best cages made.

           Storefront Burglar Bars

Don't forget to protect your business as well. So protect your business with storefront burglar bars. Our storefront burglar bars are custom made for your business. 2020 is here! The new year is great time to think about updating the security of your home. Your Christmas probably involved you and your family receiving some fun new presents. Presents that thieves would love to get their hands on. Don't make it easy for them to do this. Upgrade some of the security of your home, especially at the entry points.

           Security Doors

Many thieves do not want to take the time to try to climb into a window. Many would rather just kick the door in, grab whatever they can and make a quick getaway. Security doors are a great way to stop any burglar from even attempting this. Our security doors are made with heavy gage steel. A thief would think twice before trying to door down this door.

Midstate offers several different styles of doors. We provide jambs and headers and all hardware and locks are included. Glass and screens are also available for any of our security doors. Each door is custom made to fit your exact needs. Our goal is to provide a product that is versatile, discrete and most of all, reliable! Add elegance and security to your home with a Heavy Forged Wrought Iron Security Door today!

If don't want security doors, but still want some protection against burglars, you should think about installing security door locks on all your doors. Just like our security doors, all the hardware is included with our security door locks. We offer a variety of door locks including padlocks, deadbolts and knob locks.

           Fences and Gates

The best way to keep a thief from breaking into your house is to keep them off your property entirely. Midstate fabricates heavy steel fencing and gates that will do just that. All fencing has the option of adding steel spear points, which add another layer of security.

Our fencing is a great option especially if your house sits on a large plot of land. You will feel safer knowing your estate is surrounded by a heavy steel fence. Our gates can be electric, meaning you don't even have to get out of your car to enter your property.

A fence may also reduce your homeowners insurance premium. In order to save on insurance, the fence must be sturdy enough to withstand intruders, as well as the elements. Remember that a fence from Midstate is made from heavy steel and is strong enough to withstand almost anything.

           To Be Continued

In part 2, we will look at some more areas that you could update to make your home more secure for the new year. If you find yourself needing to update some of these items on your house, Midstate Burglar Bars & Ironworks wants to help. Midstate Burglar Bars & Ironworks is proud to now offer powder coating. What is powder coating? Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to virtually any type of metal that can be used both by industry and consumers. It has been around since the 1960s and is used on a wide variety of products.

Powder coating represents about 16% of the total industrial finishing market. It is quickly becoming the preferred method for consumers to not only protect their metal items, but to add a decorative touch as well. Powder coating provides a uniform, durable, high quality and attractive finish.

           How It Works

As stated above, Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to virtually any type of metal that can be used both by industry and consumers. The powder used in the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which electrostatically sprayed onto the surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electronically grounded surfaces until the powder is heated and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven.

Why Not Just Spray Paint It?

Nothing is going to give you that shiny, uniform wash of color like powder coating. Also, powder coating gives you such a durable finish. Spray painting cannot even compare. Because the coating is heat-cured, the final product is smooth and thick. It's very important to protect your outside metal with powder coating because of its durability. Spray paint will not last through the elements like powder coating will.

           Cost Effective

The greatest benefit of powder coating is the efficiency. The average transfer efficiency of powder coating is 60-70%. You might think that losing 30-40% of the powder when spraying is a large amount, but keep in mind that the transfer efficiency spray paint is only 30-35%, losing 65-70%. And with powder coating, any overspray is collected and reused, leaving very little to no waste.

           Environmentally Friendly

There are many environmental advantages to powder coating as well. Since there are no solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), there is no damage done to the environment when the powder coating is applied. Conventional paint contains chemicals that are harmful to the environment including ozone depletion and producing hazardous waste.

           Durability

As previously stated, powder coating provides a protective finish that is much more durable than conventional paint. Because of the high cross-link density created by powder coating, the molecular chains are harder to breakdown, making the finish harder and more durable. Powder coating protects some of the biggest industrial machinery as well as household items that you use on a daily basis.

Powder coating is tough, looks great and will last a long time. Powder coating comes in a variety of colors, can be cost effective and environmentally friendly. It's important to protect the metal around your house and powder coating is the best way to do this.

of inmates serving time for burglary, when asked how they would typically break into a house or apartment, most inmates said they broke in through an unlocked door or window. Several burglars kicked the door open. One inmate said, "I would kick in the door rather than break glass. Loud bangs are better than loud glass breaking, plus you run the risk of getting cut."
Another thing you can do while you're away on vacation is to make it look like everything is normal at your house. If you have some good neighbors that you trust, let them know you will be away and ask them to collect your newspaper and mail. A pile of newspapers in your driveway or an overstuffed mailbox is definitely a sign to burglars that you away from you house for an extended period of time.

Timers for your lights are another good way to give the appearance that someone is home and everything is normal. But don't set all your lights to come on all at once. Stagger the lights coming on and off throughout the night. Also, a timer on a radio can be a good audio cue that there are people at your house.

There are more break-ins during the month of December than in any of the other winter months. The main reason for this is, of course, Christmas. There are some things you can do so this doesn't happen to you. Some are practical, but others are more common sense.

           Burglar Bars

One thing you can do to make your home safer during the holidays and year around is to put burglar bars on all your windows. Yes, your upstairs windows as well. A burglar will use any means necessary to break into your house, including an upstairs window that you don't think someone can get access to. Thieves can be smart and will find a way to get into a window that is not protected with burglar bars.

Our burglar bars are made using heavy gage steel. We offer exterior burglar bars that are adjustable, so they are easy to install. For bars that attach to wood, there are pre-drilled in the bars. For bars that attach to brick, we build the bars to adjust out in width. You can get them in plain or with several different patterns to choose from.

We also have interior burglar bars available that look just like regular windowpanes, but they are far from regular. Interior burglar bars offer the exact same protection as exterior burglar bars and they look great! We offer three different types of interior burglar bars: windowpane style that fits snug to your window casing and line up with the grids, vertical bar style that fits snug to your window casing and vertical bar style that are adjustable. For all burglar bars installed in bedrooms, we offer fire escapes as required by law.

           Use Common Sense

One reason that houses are broken into around Christmas time is because some people receive high-end, expensive gifts. There's nothing wrong with nice, expensive gifts! But don't be foolish and advertise that your family received a huge HDTV or the latest game system by leaving the boxes for these items out on your curb. A giant TV box will catch the eye of all your neighbors and any thieves that may be scouting your neighborhood.

You may have received a brand-new sound system for you house, but it's not a good idea to turn it up to 11 so everyone in the neighborhood knows that you got a new sound system. Also, you can close your blinds or curtains at night so everyone cannot see what your family is watching on your brand-new HDTV. The point is to not be foolish by making your home a target because your family was blessed with some wonderful Christmas gifts.

           Takeaway

Nobody wants to have their Christmas ruined with a break-in. So please take some steps to make your home safer this holiday season. And don't be foolish with the boxes your presents came in. Take them to the city dump or dispose of them in some way so they aren't advertising your new stuff out on your curb.

Powder coating is a dry finishing process. It has become a very popular type of paint application process. Powder coating was introduced in North America in the 1960s. It is used on a wide variety of products and represents about 1/6 of the total industrial finishing market. But what exactly is powder coating and is it right for you?

           How Powder Coating Works

According to the Powder Coating Institute, powder coatings are based on polymer resin systems, combined with curatives, pigments, leveling agents, flow modifiers and other additives. These ingredients are melted and mixed together, then cooled and ground into a powder similar to baking powder. A process called electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) is used to apply the powder coating to material to be coated, usually metal. This application method uses a spray gun, which adds an electrostatic charge to the powder, which is then attracted to the grounded part. After the powder coating is applied to the metal, it is heated in a curing oven where the coating chemically reacts to produce molecular chains, resulting in high cross-link density. These molecular chains do not breakdown very easily. This is the most common method of applying the powders.

Also about 50% of paint evaporates without any means of reusing the over spray.

Powder coating is tough, looks great and will last a long, long time. Powder coating comes in a variety of colors, can be cost effective and environmentally friendly. It's important to protect the metal around your house and powder coating is the best way to do this.

Adding front porch columns is not only stylish, they may also make the front of your house functional. They can be used to support the roof of your house or to match the style of the rest of your home. But by adding decorative steel porch columns, you can add some curb appeal and character to your house.

           I Have Columns

What if I already have columns on the front of my house? The first thing you need to do is inspect your existing columns to make sure they can support the roof of your home. Your porch columns may look okay on the outside, but may be rotting away on the inside, especially the columns made of wood. Your porch columns are out in the elements, including rain, so if water has gotten inside the coating of your wooden column, the damage could be extensive.

It's important to also check metal porch columns, especially for rust. Rust will usually be found at the base of the column but could become rusty anywhere. Also, check to make sure the metal column is correctly fastened at the top and bottom and is secure. Pay attention to any blemishes in the metal column especially bends. If you see any of these problems with your metal porch columns, it is time to replace them.

So please check any porch columns attached to your house, especially if you haven't checked them in several years. If they are damaged and not updated or replaced, you could be paying for some serious damage to your house and roof.

America Says is a relatively new game show hosted by John Michael Higgins. The game is simple. Much like Family Feud, people are surveyed and the top answers are on the board, however in this game, the first letter in each word of each answer is shown to give the contestants a hint of what the answers may be.

This is probably one of the first things that comes to mind when you think about security for your home. Nothing will stop a thief in their tracks faster than strong, steel exterior burglar bars made by Midstate Burglar Bars & Ironworks on all the windows of your house, including the upstairs. Exterior burglar bars are one of the most efficient and cost-effective means to keep a thief from breaking into your home.

Our burglar bars are adjustable, making them easy to install whether you are attaching them to wood or brick. For burglar bars installed in bedrooms, we offer three styles with fire escapes, as required by law.

Windows aren't the only way a thief will try to get into your house. But a security door from Midstate is a great deterrent and will make any burglar keep on moving past your home. All of our security doors are made with heavy gage steel. We provide steel jambs and headers. All hardware and locks are included. Glass and screens are also available, giving you the peace of mind to feel secure if you want a nice breeze flowing through your house on a cool evening.

Keeping unwanted people off your property is a very important step in preventing a burglary. Fences and gates from Midstate will make it difficult for a thief to get onto your property. We fabricate heavy steel gates and fencing. Our fences and gates come with the option of steel spear points, which will make it even harder for someone who is unwanted to gain access to your property.

Fences also help to keep in somethings that are very precious to you, namely your children and pets. Your kids will be safe playing in your front yard with a strong, steel fence surrounding the perimeter. Fences are also a great way to keep out any wildlife that may try to wonder onto your property.

Burglar bars are one of the most efficient and cost-effective means to keep a robber from even looking at your home as an easy target. These strong metal bars over your windows require specialized tools to remove. Removing these bars would require a lot of time and make a lot of noise. Most burglars would not want to bring that much attention to themselves.

Break-ins can happen at any time of day. Burglar bars protect you day and night. It's also a good idea to keep your shrubs trimmed so they do not give burglars cover while trying to break through your burglar bars. Try to keep your bushes trimmed, so your windows are visible from the street.

Burglar bars not only keep unwanted people out of your home, they also keep loved ones in, namely your children and pets. These bars help prevent kids and pets from accidentally falling out of windows. This can allow you to have more peace of mind if someone in your house leaves a window open. There are over 3,000 cases of children falling out of windows in the United States every year. Burglar bars help prevent you and your family for having to face such a traumatic event.
Storms can pop up at any time. Debris, flying branches and falling trees caused by these storms can cause damage to your home. Burglar bars can help protect your home from these storms by blocking debris and broken tree limbs from breaking your windows, causing person injuries and property damage.

Burglar bars may actually increase the value of your house. Many people will pay extra for the security that burglar bars bring to a home. Custom-made burglar bars can add a complementing detail to your home, which can increase the value of your property.

In the Fall, when the temperatures start to drop, I love to open up the windows in my house to let a nice evening breeze cool off the house and cut down on my power bill. Midstate's burglar bars allow you to open the windows without having to worry about the safety of you and your family. The flow of fresh air is very important in preventing mold and helps remove stall air from your house.

Keeping unwanted people off your property is a huge step in preventing a burglary. Fencing and gates can help keep those unwanted people away, but there may be some other reasons a fence and gate could be beneficial for you and your home.

           Security First

The first advantage to having a fence installed is protection. You want to make it difficult for a thief to get onto your property. Midstate fabricates heavy steel gates and fencing, which have the option of steel spear points. These steel spear points will discourage any thieves or burglars.

Fencing also keeps in some things that are precious to us, namely our children and pets. A strong, steel fence gives you the peace of mind to know that your kids are safe from strangers passing by while playing in the front. Your children will be safe from any street traffic while playing inside your fenced-in yard. Fences are also a great way keep out any wildlife that may try to get onto your property.

An added layer of security is that our gates can also be electric. You don't even have to get out of your car to enter your property through the driveway gate.

And just like an alarm system for your home, a fence might reduce your homeowners insurance premium as well. In order to save on insurance, the fence must be sturdy enough to withstand intruders and other potential property damages. Remember that a fence from Midstate is made from heavy steel and is strong enough to withstand almost anything.

Fencing Around a Pool

A pool on your property can add fun and enjoyment for your whole family. It is also a huge responsibility. It has to be kept clean and safe in order to be beneficial for your family. By installing a fence from Midstate around your pool, you could be making both easier.

Having a fence around you pool can increase safety and can also help keep your pool clean. A fence will help keep debris from blowing into your pool and pool area. If you add mesh to your steel fence, even more debris is stopped that will save you hours of cleaning and helps prevent clogging in your pool's plumbing system.

Again, a fence will help keep animals out. Whether it be your pets or other wildlife, animals and pools shouldn't go together. If an animal gets into your pool, many times it cannot get out. This is a major problem if it is a wild animal. Also, animals could introduce harmful bacteria into your pool water.

Our fences and gates come in many styles and price ranges to choose from. No fencing need is too small or too big. , we learned that copper thieves are targeting anywhere and everywhere they can find copper. They are hitting foreclosed or vacant houses as well as houses that may appear vacant, for instance a house in which the family is on an extended vacation. They are taking advantage of the world-wide demand for copper by stealing the copper and selling it for big profits to recyclers across the United States.

Whether your air conditioner unit is on the side of the house or in the back, it is vulnerable to copper thieves. Don't let another day go by with an unprotected A/C. Midstate has been making quality products to help protect your property for more than 35 years. It may not seem very important right now, but one encounter with some copper thieves could cost thousands of dollars to repair or replace.

Midstate's air conditioner guards and cages are attractive, affordable, easily removable for maintenance and incredibly easy to install. They also discourage copper thieves from even bothering with your A/C unit. Midstate’s air conditioner guards and cages are extremely strong and fully adjustable to fit units measuring 23" wide to 36" wide and 24" high to 45" high. There are even other colors available to match your air conditioner unit. Our cages and guards are extremely durable and will last for many, many years.

You may ask if your A/C unit has to have a concrete pad? No, you do not need to have a concrete pad under your unit, but you will have to anchor the guard or cage to ground in some way. Don’t worry, we provide instructions on how to do so.

           Your Business Too

Don't forget to protect the air conditioner units at your business too. Most businesses have more than one A/C unit, making it a bigger target for copper thieves. The more units in one location, the bigger the profits for them. Many businesses may not get very much foot traffic like there would be in a neighborhood, especially on the weekends. That's why it's doubly important to protect the air conditioner units at your business.

Your business probably has an air conditioner that is larger than the maximum size of most units or several units that are side by side. No worries! For larger condensers, two cages can be put together by facing the open sides toward each other to fully enclose the condenser. We can provide instructions on how to do this as well. Believe me, we have been in business for more than 35 years and we have you covered for your A/C security needs.

Most people may not think about protecting their air conditioner units. But it can definitely be in danger, especially if it’s hidden behind your house. Midstate Burglar Bars & Ironworks can help protect your property by installing a guard or cage on your A/C unit. You can

Copper thefts are taking place all over the United States and are being committed by individuals and organized groups who want a quick profit from a variety of easy targets, one of which is your air conditioner unit. On average there is at least one A/C unit stolen every day in the United States. You do not want this to be you, so you need to protect your A/C unit with a guard or cage from Midstate!

           Why Copper?

Copper thieves are targeting anywhere and everywhere they can find copper. They are hitting electrical sub-stations, cellular towers, telephone land lines, railroads, water wells, construction sites and air conditioner units at foreclosed or vacant houses as well as houses that may appear vacant, for instance a house in which the family is on an extended vacation. Most thieves are not stupid. They could stakeout your house for days before trying to steal the copper out of your air conditioner.

But why copper? According to a study by the FBI, the demand for copper from other nations is creating a strong international copper trade. Copper thieves are taking advantage of this demand and the ensuing price surge by stealing the copper and selling it for big profits to recyclers across the United States. As the demand grows and the supply tightens around the world, the market for illicit copper will probably increase.

No one in their right mind would leave thousands of dollars outside their home in a box, but that is exactly what you are doing if you leave your air conditioner unit unprotected outside your home or office. It's true that many homes have the air conditioner unit on the side of the house, making it visible to everyone, which makes it more difficult for thieves to have access to the unit. But what if you unit is hidden behind the house or you live in a rural area where your nearest neighbor is hundreds of yards away? This could give thieves a lot of cover to break open your A/C unit and steal all the copper out of it. But even if your unit is on the side of your house, thieves are smart. It would not be uncommon for a thief to use a repair truck to disguise their actual purpose. Most people may not even pay attention to a couple guys "working on the A/C" if a repair truck is in the driveway.

Everyone wants to feel safe in your home. According to a study from 2012, one in every thirty-six houses will be burglarized in the United States this year. A burglary happens every 15 seconds and about 34% of burglars enter through the front door. No one wants their home to be broken into, but most people don't think about protecting their home until after it's too late.

Yes, a security system is an important first step in protecting your home, but a lot of people forget to set their system, especially during the day when most home burglaries occur. That's right, the majority of home burglaries take place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. when you are at work. Installing security doors and locks is a great way to keep your home and family safe and obstructs a key entry and exit point of your house.

Yes, it's important to secure your windows with our burglar bars, but as stated above, a third of all break-ins enter through the front door. It would not be uncommon for a burglar to use a repair truck to disguise their actual purpose. And a nosy neighbor may not even pay attention to a couple guys going in and out the front door if a repair truck is in the driveway.

So don't make it easy for burglar to break into your home. Buy a security door and stop a burglar in his tracks. Our goal at Midstate is to provide a product that is reliable, versatile and discrete. All of our security doors are made with heavier gage steel. We provide steel jambs and headers. All hardware and locks are included. Glass and screens are also available.

Security doors can help keep burglars out, but they can also help lower your home's power bill. Temperature in the summer seems to be hotter and hotter every year, especially in the South. You want to keep your A/C bill as low as possible, right? Security doors can add another layer of insulation for your home. With our security doors you can keep the cold air in during the summer and the heat in during the winter and lower your power bill.

Add Value To Your Home With Railings

Investments are an important way to improve your life. You can even make investments to improve one of your greatest investments: your home. Railings can seem like a minor addition to your home, but it can have a very big impact. By adding attractive, high-quality railings to the interior and exterior of your house could boost your home's value. Here's how.

           Curb Appeal

Curb appeal is very easy to understand. The nicer the exterior of your home looks from the curb, the easier it is to sell. Yes, it's important to keep your lawn manicured perfectly and beautiful landscaping can be breathtaking, but you might want to consider investing in outdoor railings as well. Some wrought iron railings on the steps to your front door, around the front porch and an upstairs balcony is an excellent way to add curb appeal and increase the value of your home.

           Indoor Railings

Indoor railings can have a significant impact on the value of your home. New railings on your staircases can give your house a little extra pop. When someone walks in your front door, the first thing they see is your entryway, which for most houses include a stairway to the upstairs. A well-designed stair system can boost your home's artistic appeal and your home's value. Steel railings come in a variety for styles and colors that will make your railings stand out for their beauty.

           A Safer Home

If you easily lose your balance, clinging to the railing could save you some bumps and bruises or something worse. Railings provide stability, which is important for young children to adults to the elderly. Railings on decks and ledges prevent falls from a few feet to several stories. They provide a much-needed barrier for wandering children, pets and adults.

During bad weather, floor surfaces can become slippery and dangerous. Railings provide support from falling on the wet or snowy surfaces. Also, railings on your deck or balcony can prevent items from flying away during a windy day.

Another great reason for railings on stairs is to have something to hold when carrying something. The load doesn't have to be heavy; it can be awkward to hold and having that railing to balance yourself can save you and whatever your cargo may be.

           Steel Is Best

Wooden railings are so much work for the consumer. You have to protect them from pests that would love to make a home inside the wooden railing or just eat their way through the railing. Wooden railings have to be treated and retreated for the weather. They also do not last as long at steel and will cost much more in the long run.

Steel railings are more durable to the weather and there's no way any pests are going to borrow inside or eat their way through them. Steel railings will last a lifetime and more.

In 2015, there were over 1.5 million burglaries in the United States according to the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Statistics. Interior burglar bars can provide an excellent deterrent for any potential burglars. There are many other benefits that interior bars can have for your home as well. We will explore a couple of these other benefits and dispel an excuse many people have for not adding interior burglar bars to their home.

Your Home Owners Association (HOA) may not be in favor of exterior burglar bars. In your HOA's mind, exterior bars on the windows of your home have a negative effect on the attractiveness of your house. But interior burglar bars can provide all the security of exterior bars, but they look so much better on your house. From the outside your home, they appear to be window panes and they can stop a burglar in his tracks. So by installing interior burglar bars, you can keep your home's curb appeal and make the HOA board happy.

Also, your home insurer may also offer you a discount or reduced rate for having interior bars or other security measured installed on your home. There are several ways to reduce your homeowner's insurance rate. You can have multiple policies (such as auto and home) or have a credit score of 680 or higher, but few features on your home are as likely to earn a discount as having security measures in place that show that you are serious about protecting your home from burglary including interior burglar bars. Simply call your insurance provider to check. You may be shocked at what you find out.

Many people use the excuse that the cost is too much. The bars have to be purchased and then someone has to hired to install them. This is simply not true. Midstate's interior burglar bars are affordable and there's no need to hire someone to install them. You really can't afford to NOT get interior burglar bars for your home.

Our interior burglar bars are easy to install. You measure your windows. The interior burglar bars are custom made to fit the dimensions provided by the customer. They easily bolt into place and are adjustable making them even easier to install. Midstate offers three different types: Window pane style that fits snug to your window casing and line up with the grids; Vertical bar style that fits snug to your window casing; and Vertical bar style that is adjustable in width. Security for your home and family is very important. No one wants their house to be broken into. Unfortunately, most people do not think about such things until after their house has been robbed. Installing security doors and locks is a great way to keep your home and family safe and obstructs a key entry and exit point of your house.

Windows aren't the only way a thief will use to break into your house. However, a security door would stop a burglar in his tracks. Our goal at Midstate is to provide a product that is reliable, versatile and discrete. All of our security doors are made with heavier gage steel. We provide steel jambs and headers. All hardware and locks are included. Glass and screens are also available.

Our security doors are available with screens that allow you to keep the door open to let fresh are in without having to worry about your safety or letting bugs in. Speaking of saving money, security doors can help keep burglars out, but they can also help lower your home's power bill. Summer temperatures get hot, especially in the South, so you want to keep your A/C bill as low as possible. Security doors can add another layer of insulation for your home, which will keep the cold air in during the summer and the heat in during the winter.

If your existing door is broken and needs to be replaced, this is a great time to replace it with a security door. Our security doors are made of heavy gage steel and are stronger than other doors and will last a long, long time. You won't have to worry about this door breaking!

If you don’t want security doors, at least invest in some extra protection with a security door lock. All hardware is included and they come in a variety of styles. No matter which type works best for you, a padlock, deadbolt or knob lock will add another layer of protection for your family. Your door is probably the easiest entry point for a burglar and a security door lock will stop a thief in his tracks.

Enclosing your porch is another way to feel safe. It adds another layer of security from a burglar attempting to break in through your door. Whether it's your front porch or back porch, most people have patio furniture that need protection as well as kid's toys and regularly used tools.

Spring is in the air and many people have spring cleaning on their mind as well. But most people do not think about security for their house or business when spring cleaning comes to mind. But you should. Summer is coming and more burglaries take place in the summer than any other time of year. And windows and doors aren’t the only thing that needs security around your house.

Everyone wants to feel safe, especially in their home. Burglar bars, either exterior or interior, can provide that safety. Interior burglar bars can protect your house as well as exterior burglar bars. Interior burglar bars look like regular window panes, but they are far from regular. Thieves will try to break in any way possible, so it’s important to install burglar bars on all windows, including upstairs.

Midstate offers three different types: Window pane style that fits snug to your window casing and line up with the grids; Vertical bar style that fits snug to your window casing; and Vertical bar style that is adjustable in width. For burglar bars installed in bedrooms, we offer the three styles with a fire escapes as required by law. The burglar bars that we manufacture are very well made using heavy gage steel and are simple to install by the homeowner.

A household item that most people don’t think about protecting is their air conditioner unit. So why would someone steal an air conditioner unit? They want the cooper from the system and take it to their local scrapping company. While the thief will maybe get $100 for his dishonest efforts, unfortunately the repair cost for the A/C unit would be a few thousand dollars.

There are even other colors available to match your air conditioner unit. Our cages and guards are extremely durable and will last for many, many years.

         Railings: Safety Can Be Beautiful

Whether it's a couple steps or a hundred, I know that I feel safer with a railing there to hang onto. Most people take them for granted, but if every railing in the world disappeared all at once, it would be catastrophic! People would be falling down stairs, off balconies and porches. Although most of us use railings everyday, we sometimes for forget the importance of railings for safety.

           Safety First

If you misjudge a step or you may be a person that easily loses your balance, clinging to the railing could save you some bumps and bruises or something worse. Railings provide stability, which is important for young children to adults to the elderly. Most people just lightly touch the railing with a hand just to know that it is there and can easily be grabbed if you were to stumble.

Railings on decks and ledges prevent falls from a few feet to several stories. They provide a much-needed barrier for wandering children, pets and adults who may need something to lean on when enjoying a cookout or party.

During bad weather, floor surfaces can become slippery and dangerous. Railings provide support from falling on the wet or snowy surfaces. Also railings on your deck or balcony can prevent items from flying away during a windy day.

Another great reason for railings on stairs is to have something to hold when carrying something. The load doesn't have to be heavy, it can be awkward to hold and having that railing to balance yourself can save you and whatever your cargo may be.

           It’s A Beauty

A household item that most people don’t think about protecting is their air conditioner unit. How many people do you know that have had their A/C unit stolen? But typically, there is at least one air conditioner theft every day. Maybe you haven’t heard because most go unreported and it may not come up in every day conversation. It does happen and we’ll explore why and what you can do to stop it.

           Who Would Steal An A/C?

Why would someone steal an air conditioner unit? Most thieves are only interested in the cooper inside the unit. They remove all the cooper from the system and take it to their local scrapping company. Unfortunately, scrapping companies are not required to ask where the materials came from, they only have to get the seller’s EPA or driver’s license. The truly sad part is that the thief will maybe get $100 for his dishonest efforts, while the repair cost for the A/C unit would be a few thousand dollars.

If you think about it, your air conditioner unit is probably in a great spot to be tampered with. Most units are in the back of the house and have some bushes around it. Also, if you have a privacy fence, that can give a thief all the encouragement they need.

           What Can I Do?

A friend’s A/C unit is in an inlet in the back of his house, so the unit is unseen on three sides, which gives thieves lots of cover. That’s why he recently purchased a cage to help protect his air conditioner unit.

Midstate’s A/C guards and cages are extremely strong and fully adjustable to fit units measuring 23" wide to 36" wide and 24" high to 45" high. They are service tech friendly and easy to install.

Well what if you have an office building or an extremely large house or you just want your house to be as cold as a polar bear’s cave? You probably have an air conditioner that is larger than the maximum size of most units. No worries! For larger condensers, two cages can be put together by facing the open sides toward each other to fully enclose the condenser. We can provide instructions on how to do this as well. Believe me, we have you covered for your A/C security needs.

Most people may not think about protecting their air conditioner units. But it can definitely be in danger, especially if it’s hidden behind your house.

Everyone wants to feel safe, especially in their own home. And maybe you don’t want your home to have the look that exterior burglar bars gives. Did you know there is an option other than exterior burglar bars? Interior burglar bars may be your answer and you can preserve your house’s curb appeal.

           Same Protection

Now I know what you’re going to ask, “Can interior burglar bars protect me as well at exterior burglar bars?” The simple answer is yes! Interior burglar bars provide all the security of exterior ones, but they look so much better on your house. From the outside our home, the interior burglar bars appear to be window panes.

With or without burglar bars, it’s always a good idea to not block any windows with any shrubs. This would provide cover for thieves. Try to keep your bushes trimmed, so your windows are visible from the street.

           Upstairs too?

Thieves try to break in your house any way they can. That’s why it’s important to install interior burglar bars on your upstairs windows as well as your ground floor windows. And don’t make it easy on the burglars either. Make sure there’s nothing outside your house that can help them ascend to the second floor windows.

Another reason to install burglar bars in your house may not be as obvious. They keep things in. We all know that kids (particularly young ones) love to get into stuff and places they shouldn’t. Interior burglar bars will prevent your young child from venturing out the window onto a patio roof or awning. They’ll also prevent them from falling out the window. These are same excellent reasons for interior burglar bars on the upstairs windows.

Variety is the Spice of Life

Midstate offers three different types: Window pane style that fits snug to your window casing and line up with the grids; Vertical bar style that fits snug to your window casing; and Vertical bar style that is adjustable in width. For interior burglar bars installed in bedrooms, we offer the three styles with a fire escapes as required by law. The interior burglar bars that we manufacture are very well made using heavy gage steel and are simple to install by the homeowner. Interior burglar bars are adjustable so therefore they are easy to install.
