Break-Ins During the Holidays

Break-Ins During the Holidays
There are more break-ins during the month of December than in any of the other winter months. The main reason for this is, of course, Christmas. There are some things you can do so this doesn't happen to you. Some are practical, but others are more common sense.

Burglar Bars

One thing you can do to make your home safer during the holidays and year around is to put burglar bars on all your windows. Yes, your upstairs windows as well. A burglar will use any means necessary to break into your house, including an upstairs window that you don't think someone can get access to. Thieves can be smart and will find a way to get into a window that is not protected with burglar bars.

Our burglar bars are made using heavy gage steel. We offer exterior burglar bars that are adjustable, so they are easy to install. For bars that attach to wood, there are pre-drilled in the bars. For bars that attach to brick, we build the bars to adjust out in width. You can get them in plain or with several different patterns to choose from.

We also have interior burglar bars available that look just like regular windowpanes, but they are far from regular. Interior burglar bars offer the exact same protection as exterior burglar bars and they look great! We offer three different types of interior burglar bars: windowpane style that fits snug to your window casing and line up with the grids, vertical bar style that fits snug to your window casing and vertical bar style that are adjustable. For all burglar bars installed in bedrooms, we offer fire escapes as required by law.

Use Common Sense

One reason that houses are broken into around Christmas time is because some people receive high-end, expensive gifts. There's nothing wrong with nice, expensive gifts! But don't be foolish and advertise that your family received a huge HDTV or the latest game system by leaving the boxes for these items out on your curb. A giant TV box will catch the eye of all your neighbors and any thieves that may be scouting your neighborhood.

You may have received a brand-new sound system for you house, but it's not a good idea to turn it up to 11 so everyone in the neighborhood knows that you got a new sound system. Also, you can close your blinds or curtains at night so everyone cannot see what your family is watching on your brand-new HDTV. The point is to not be foolish by making your home a target because your family was blessed with some wonderful Christmas gifts.

Takeaway

Nobody wants to have their Christmas ruined with a break-in. So please take some steps to make your home safer this holiday season. And don't be foolish with the boxes your presents came in. Take them to the city dump or dispose of them in some way so they aren't advertising your new stuff out on your curb.
